In just four years, from 2000 to 2004, there were 11% fewer child labor cases worldwide. The percentage of kids working in dangerous jobs fell by 26% during this time. The drop was 33% more severe for children between the ages of 5 and 14 who are engaged in dangerous jobs. The overall picture has shown a downward trend; that is, the quicker the decline, the more harmful the work is and the more risky the children involved are. Over the past four years, the percentage of children working has lessened by two-thirds in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a child work participation rate of 5%. The ILO Global Report focuses on political will, wise resource management, and well-considered policy decisions can all play an important role in ending child labor globally.
